While that old mantel clock may be best kept in memory of your deceased grandmother and those pile of chewed up baseball cards may not be as expensive as you thought, look up other areas of the house. Yes, colored measuring spoons, strainers, animal cookie jars, cartoon tumblers, porcelain salt and pepper shakers, tin cookie cutters, plastic handled potato mashers and all sorts of kitchen collectibles can bring you some small fortune. Not everything however that fits the descriptions of the above-named are, of course, kitchen collectibles. They might just be kitchen utensils that you don’t recognize because you never visit the kitchen in the first place. Real kitchen collectibles have real value that is nearly absurd. So how do you recognize genuine kitchen collectibles?

Seek the Wisdom of the Elders

Okay, this is really just tantamount to saying that you should ask the older ladies in your house, specifically those who were born in the 50s, to identify the kitchenware. They would, for example, know that silver lunch boxes with thermoses are priceless kitchen collectibles. They may also recognize those creepy looking, wide-eyed mini heads are actually salt and pepper shakers that can fetch a little over $30. Maybe they can even add some variedly shaped tin cookie cutters that are priced at $50 or more to your kitchen collectibles.

Look at Anything that’s Not Digital or Touch Button

Alright, so it may be too much too much to ask for cookie jars that satiate all your cookie cravings with just a touch of a button. If you were born in the past three decades however, you would definitely know what modern kitchenware would look like. Everything else therefore that looks a little old and weird to you might just be valuable kitchen collectibles. This would include those jugs with the cartoon characters that you don’t recognize or that thing with the knob that you actually have to turn to make it work. You may even find items that look like they belong to the inquisition but are actually good old kitchen tools.

There are actually thousands of kitchen collectibles out there. Some of them might just be in your kitchen. So don’t throw things that look unusual or old to you. They might just give you a couple of bucks on hand.
